4698: Rice Paddy Guardian

Bugau Dayak (Iban sub-group). Ketungau River, Sintang Regencey, West Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.

These guardian figures were used to protect the rice fields and rice paddy stored in the granary from malevolent spirits.
This example is a very rare example with a sitting male and female pair of figures, each facing outwards.
